Our Story

The Greenville Garden Initiative began as an attempt to create a community-strengthening garden in Greenville Illinois. The group began as a COR 401 project idea in fall 2012.

The garden is currently in its creation stages. It will be located near the corner of N. Elm St. and Beaumont Ave. behind the Greenville College tennis courts.

The Garden has 3 main purposes;

  1. Create an on-campus space intentionally welcoming to community members.
  2. Confront malnutrition among low-income families in Bond County and a need for fair access to fresh produce by establishing an ethic of sharing produce with the Bond County Food Pantry.
  3. Strengthen our community by breaking down institutionalized economic and social barriers.
